FAQs & Troubleshooting
Hardware
Which robot brands are currently compatible with the robobrain®?
Robots by Universal Robots, Fanuc and Robco are currently fully integrated with the robobrain® system. However, any other robot can also be connected via a TCP/IP communication interface.
What are my options if I have forgotten the IP address of the robobrain®?
Connect a monitor to the HDMI port of the graphic card of the robobrain® (port at the bottom). Once the robobrain® is powered on, the IP address will be displayed on the monitor.
How does the robobrain.eye camera work?
The robobrain.eye camera is based on stereo matching where the depth information is estimated by comparing images from two sensors. To improve the quality of the stereo matching for flat or featureless surfaces, a laser projects a infrared pattern to the field of view of the camera.
Can I use a different camera with the robobrain®?
Apart from our standard robobrain.eye camera, you can also use the Zivid Two camera in combination with the robobrain® if you need highly precise pictures.
Can I use a custom camera mount?
Yes, any custom camera mount can be used. However, it is recommended that the gripper is outside of the field of view of the camera. You also need to make sure that 3D-printed camera mounts are sturdy enough to account for the vibrations caused by the movements of the robot arm.
In which temperature range can the robobrain® system be operated?
The robobrain® system is optimized for operating temperatures between +5° and +40°C.
What's the length of the camera cable? Are other options available?
The standard cable has a length of 10m, however options up to 50m are also available.
Skills, Workspaces and Boxes
Can I restore deleted AI Skills, boxes or workspaces?
Deleted AI Skills, boxes and workspaces cannot be restored by the user. Please contact our support and we will help you find a solution.
Can I upload the same AI Skill with different values?
Yes, setting up the same skill with different parameters is possible. Please contact us and we will help you set up the additional skill.
Can I create custom skills for my robobrain® system?
Yes, you can use our SkillDK (Skill Development Kit) to create custom skills to run on your robobrain®.
How can I get an update for my skills?
We will not install updates automatically on your system, we will however inform you once an update for your system is available.
How many boxes and workspaces can I save?
There's no limit to how many boxes and workspaces you can save.
In Practice
What is the best way to set up a workspace without a box?
The workspace definition always refers to the center of the workspace. You can use your robot end effector, i.e. the TCP position, to roughly position your area of interest in space. Based on that initial position, we then suggest taking a test capture with the newly created workspace. By doing that, you can easily identify whether you need to adjust the orientation and position parameters of the workspace.
The robobrain® doesn't detect every part, how can I improve that?
Make sure that the z-position of the workspace is set correctly, so that the robobrain® also detects narrow objects close to the bottom of the bin / table. If your camera is mounted dynamically (at the tool flange), you can include a routine in your robot program that varies the capture position once the robobrain® no longer detects a part. This can help to account for errors caused by shadows or reflections inside the bin.
Can I improve the camera recordings with additional lighting?
The camera is not very sensitive to different lighting conditions. However, for best results, direct sunlight should be avoided. If shiny or reflective materials are in the field of view of the camera, diffuse or indirect lightning can reduce problems caused by reflections.
